Roissy-Paris for 247 euros: the rogue taxi receives 8 months in prison

VIDEO – For claiming this amount from Thai tourists for a Roissy-Paris trip, an illegal taxi driver was sentenced this Thursday to one year in prison, including four months suspended. The scene was filmed by the victims.

The sentence fell on Thursday for the underground taxi driver whose ride to 247 euros had gone viral on social networks. At the beginning of November, claiming to be from the company Chauffeur Privé, he had invoiced this extraordinary amount to a couple of Thai tourists for a simple Roissy-Paris trip. A race priced on average at 50 euros. However, he did not expect his victims to film the whole scene and then publish it on the networks. After nearly 3 hours of hearing Thursday, the defendant, Enock C., was sentenced to one year in prison including four months suspended and without a committal warrant, for extortion by violence, threat and exercise illegal taxi profession. In defense, the crook driver tried to convince people of his innocence, claiming not to be aware of the rates in force: “I don’t know, I am not a taxi. It is the application that I use that decides, ”he said in court. The driver also refuted the complainants’ accusations that he had prevented them from getting out of the vehicle.

In addition, he is suspected of having operated the VTC service between March 2016 and March 2017 without being entered in the register and using a false administrative document. Then illegally practicing the taxi profession, the crook driver was driving without a professional card or insurance. In this case, the National Taxi Federation (FNDT) became a civil party “in order to seek compensation for the damage suffered by the entire profession”, and thus requested “247 euros in damages for the infringement of the collective interest brought to the profession of Taxi “, indicated the lawyer of the FNDT, Jonathan Bellaiche, in Figaro. Enock C. was also fined “400 euros for lack of insurance” and was confiscated “several seals, including two vehicles,” said the lawyer. For their part, Thai tourists received 250 euros in compensation for the material damage suffered.

The scene filmed by the victims with their mobile phones showed the couple initially refusing to pay, while the driver became progressively insistent and threatening. Faced with two tourists who asked to be dropped off in front of a police station, the driver categorically refused and urged customers to pay it so that they could get out of the vehicle. In the end, the couple decided to pay 200 euros to be able to get out of the car quickly.
