Modilac infant products withdrawn from sale after detection of salmonella

The recall concerns approximately 400,000 boxes of 18 product references.

Sodilac on Thursday recalled several infant products made from rice proteins manufactured in northern Spain and distributed under the Modilac brand. This measure follows the report of four cases in France of “Salmonella poona” in the stools of infants.

“In agreement with the DGCCRF, Modilac has decided to recall all the formulas based on rice proteins beyond the two batches concerned to date and as a precaution, all the infant formulas manufactured in the plant concerned in Spain , while waiting for the origin of the problem to be established, ”the company said in a statement.

Parents must return the products to the pharmacy

This recall concerns around 400,000 boxes of 18 product references distributed exclusively in pharmacies, via charities – Restos du cœur, Médecins sans frontières, Red Cross Guyana – and online sales sites, including the American giant Amazon. The Modilac site has put online

“This is the first time that we have carried out a withdrawal of such magnitude” explains to AFP the leader of Modilac, Joris Bernard, who pleads a “responsible attitude” in respect of the “precautionary principle”. Parents who hold one or more boxes of the references concerned are invited not to use them and to return them to their usual pharmacy or to the associations concerned.

Consult the pediatrician promptly in the event of symptoms

“If your child presents symptoms such as diarrhea or fever, we invite you to quickly contact your pediatrician, your general practitioner or the emergency room,” the statement said.

Modilac has been part of the Savencia Fromage & Dairy cheese group since December 2013, formerly Bongrain, a listed company employing 20,000 people and achieving in 2017 a turnover of nearly 5 billion euros. The parent company notably owns the Caprice des Dieux, Elle & Vire and Saint Môret brands.
