Olivier Véran confirms the reopening of nightclubs “in July”

“We are working on a health protocol, with a view to opening nightclubs this summer,” the minister said on Thursday morning.

The precise date is still not known, but the horizon is gradually emerging for nightclub managers. Asked about BFMTV this Thursday morning, the Minister of Solidarity and Health, Olivier Véran, confirmed that the discotheques should reopen in July, within a few weeks, therefore.

«We are working on a health protocol, with a view to opening nightclubs this summer», Declared the Minister. The establishments will be able to reopen, but with special conditions, still under discussion with the professionals. A health pass is discussed in particular, even for a gathering of less than 1000 people, but “in July […] discotheques will have to reopen, with specific conditions“. Without their reopening, young people risk partying in deteriorated sanitary conditions, less supervised, pleaded the minister.

Debate around the health protocol

The precise date of the reopening remains the prerogative of Emmanuel Macron: the President of the Republic invited the sector to meet him on June 21. Professionals then hope to finally know the moment when they can raise the curtain, after more than a year of forced closure.

Last week, two representative unions of the sector – the Umih and the GNI – with the government, and whose broad outlines were validated. The organizations were counting on a recovery from June 30. The draft protocol includes in particular gauges, reinforced ventilation of establishments, a health pass or, failing this, the presentation of the result of a test at the entrance, or even the performance of a self-test in front of the doors, in front of the eyes. Staff. The sanitary rules should also be constantly reminded, including by the DJ, who must mention them “at the microphone»During the evening.

However, certain points remain under discussion, the organizations specified: the wearing of a mask on the dance floor has not yet been determined, as is the health pass. This track seems inevitable, however, according to professionals, the executive holding on to it. In addition, the sector wants aid to be maintained, including for establishments reopening in degraded conditions, in order to avoid cascading bankruptcies. Of the 1,600 establishments that dot France, 200 have already filed for bankruptcy, underlined the GNI.

The fact remains that these reopening conditions are the subject of fierce debate within the sector itself. Some consider this protocol too restrictive, and not taking into account the realities of the course of an evening in a nightclub. “Certain union actors will bear the responsibility for what will result from an opening in degraded and very constrained mode, which will obviously be the case since it is these union actors who proposed it in their work “behind closed doors” with the government on health pass“, The boss of the National Union of discos and places of leisure (SNDLL), Patrick Malvaës.
