Xiaomi wants to take a similar path, with the design of a new SoC (System-On-Chip) created by Leadcore. In a recent interview with EETimes, the change was confirmed by Vice President Marshal Cheng.

At the same time, I take this step as logical and to some extent inevitable. Xiaomi sold 61.1 million smartphones last year, and with that volume, Qualcomm may have problems with SoC delivery. The first is the leading game in the segment. With more than half the market share, it offers processors of all performance, and therefore also price categories.

The volume of production may not always be enough to meet demand. This can easily lead to a situation where the customer will have to wait for the chips, of course, not only the completion of smartphones, but also their distribution slowed down.

The speculated investment did not take place

At the end of last year, there were rumors that Xiaomi had bought 51% of the shares in Leadcore. Tovak Cheng categorically refused. It would not be really feasible, because the aunt of the Datang Telecom Technology and Industry group, under its leadership Leadcore fall, still own stt.

Leadcore has a relatively strong patent portfolio in the field of telecommunications standards, including LTE and LTE Advanced. First, due to the rich intellectual property, this company is very attractive in the management of Xiaomi.

Marshal Cheng reminds us that the Leadcore LC1860 is not designed for phones at all times, but on the contrary, it belongs to the category of the most affordable smartphones. It is therefore not surprising that the Redmi 2A is still the cheapest smartphone in the history of Xiaomi. The phone with 16 GB of internal memory costs 2400 crowns on the German market.

It can be expected that Xiaomi, in cooperation with Leadcore, will focus on ipsets for mid-range and smartphone equipment.
