The Czechoslovak airline had foreign lines two not SA

90 years ago, a Czechoslovak airline was founded. The regular international air transport, which she specialized in, was even started by two non-old and old Czechoslovak state airlines.

Origin at the instigation of sttu

On January 22, 1927, the Czechoslovak Airline was founded by the Koda Group as a joint-stock company with a registered name of 8 million crowns. The new entity was to specialize exclusively in international air transport. In contrast, Czechoslovak State Airlines was established in 1923, originally for the provision of domestic air transport, and it began internationally in 1930 (more about the first foreign line SA in this line).

Although the establishment itself can be summed up in one sentence, in reality it was not so simple and fast. Since the meeting of 1925, the state (respectively the Ministry of Public Works) has called for large engineering companies and banks to carry out international air transport, and SA did not have enough capital to launch it. Air transport flourished and it was clear to me that there was a great future in the international field. And Czechoslovakia must not be left behind.

There was more of a desire with the desire to establish a joint venture. In the end, it was important that the code was not the main founder, but not the only one. Laurin & Klement was also one of the subjects of the joint venture, which, before the founding of LS, became part of the koda concern. With the others, the dominant group had a secret agreement that it would take over their shares in the new company, and none of them should have been involved in the code. But it doesn’t matter, or as we take it, Koda became the only founder in the finale.

It is not possible without pensions

If we do not get to these pleasant things, it is necessary to change the financial side. The Czechoslovak airline, of course, did not live without state subsidies (at that time it was not even possible). In many years, you also received subsidies from Czechoslovak Airlines. For example, in 1928, when it started its own flight operations, it received 5,807,272 K from the state, while SA received only 4,370,260 K. The largest contribution came to both companies in 1938, SA received a respectable 29,628,100 K and private LS still more than the sun 18 865 031 K. In addition, nesttn LS sometimes received fewer contributions from cities, in which it had its stations. In 1931, in addition to more than 10 million from the state, he received contributions in the amount of 200,267 K from Essen, 240,000 K from Leipzig and 85,000 K from Marinskch Lzn. (financial data: L + K, year 1995)

In the state subsidies for LS, it was determined according to the contractual algorithm, when the state passed the specified rate per flight kilometer. On the contrary, the carrier paid a penalty at the start of the start due to technical reasons due to (for example, the influence of the weather was innocent by the nice carrier and therefore possibly not penalized).

Despite the fact that this topic is not easy to change, it is good to change, as some foreign airlines have also subsidized it. Such an influence was, for example, Air France, and in its case it was a million crowns in the thirty years.

By plane around Europe

And take her to ltn and the planes. The first director of LS was Karel Hupner, who had previously won the same role at SA. It was not opened in 1937 for a new modern flight in Ruzyně, the company had its main warehouse in Kbelch, similar to SA.

For the first year, LS only represented some of the foreign companies flying to Prague. The actual air traffic began on May 7, 1928, after more than a year of operation, after the slip received the first aircraft type Avia BH25. It was a connection Berlin – Drany – Prague – Vde, in which she participated together with Lufthansa and Sterreichische Luftverkehr. In May, the following line was added: Prague – Marinsk Lzn – Kassel – Rotterdam. And the company started operating, in addition to avi, the iconic Fokker transport high-altitude locomotives, while a single-engine version of the sevens.

LS protected their passages and thus also their machines with the Vasano prepart. The development of the drug, launched on the market in 1927, was at the forefront of the pharmacologist prof. Emil Starkenstein, who tried to namco something for the prevention and treatment of diseases. And let’s add that Vasano was the first inn preparation for this ailment.

In the following years, new connections were gradually added, and the existing ones were expanded with new intermediate stations and extended. For example, from Rotterdam we continued to Amsterdam. Amsterdam then became the same foreign station LS, our company cooperated with the Dutch KLM.

In 1936, regular visits were made to Switzerland and France on the line Prague – Munich – Zurich – Geneva – Marseille. The following year, Budapest, Hungary, arrived, and in 1938, which was the most fruitful for air transport, it was extended on two different routes from Amsterdam to London, England.

With this, the total length of routes and the number of naltanch kilometers grew. In 1928 it was 1,414 km of tracks and 285,443 kilometers, which was modest compared to 1938, when the total length of the lines was 3,470 km and even 1,402,135 km were found.

In the second half of these years, modern American aircraft were purchased, first the Douglas DC-2 and then the DC-3. Thanks to this, the average road speed increased, which in 1938 reached 260 km / h. The same parameter for SA was 224 km / h (when comparing the fleet of both companies, the difference for SA is to drive sun).

Konec LS

Its fulfillment of the Munich Agreement had a negative effect on the fate of LS. For the year 1939, there was a reduction of lines. The final end of the half and after the seizure of the fall of the German republic on February 15, 1939. After the liberation in 1945, the Czechoslovak airline was not restored.

So we must not forget that after the breakup of the republic, some LS employees used to go illegally abroad. There they intended to join the resistance as soon as possible and to break up Tet i, that is, the conquerors, and then remove their republic from under its yoke. Let’s name at least Vclava Kordu, who first served as a crew member of the Czechoslovak Air Force in the second half of the twelve years and after leaving for the army flew in 1931 and 1939 as a transport pilot at the LS (sometimes incorrectly stated SA). The machine then stayed in the UK. He was at the birth of the 311th S. bomber squadron, where he began flying in the Wellingtons as a crew commander. Among other things, he was awarded the Zslun Air Force (DFC) for the intervention of tkho kink Prinz Eugen in lt 1941, anchored in the Brittany port of Brest with a strong anti-aircraft defense.

Fleet LS

In the years 1928 and 1939, six types of aircraft appeared in the fleet of the Czechoslovak airline in a total of two dozen – not counting the pieces, which and purchased, did not bend in service or initiative. One other type was a potato (Avia Av-51), but it didn’t work out.

Avia B.H.25

Avia BH25 byla prvn

In addition to becoming the first type of aircraft in the LS fleet, the Avia BH25 also boasted other primtats. It was thus the first domestic aircraft with a deck toilet, the first aircraft on international routes and the first exported transport aircraft of Czechoslovak construction (6 in Romania). Unlike the competing Aero A.23 from the same period that they bought the SA, the Avia BH25 had a local crew cabin (pilot and mechanic) in front of the passenger cabin, ie on the pedestal (aero small crew can take care of the passenger cabin behind the passenger cabin).

The BH25 prototype was built with the Lorraine Dietrich engine. Srio’s machines were ground by Walter Jupiter, who also received a prototype. According to the matriculation of the L-BABA prototype, all machines received the Baba nickname.

And go note kt toilets. We must not idealize this in any way, especially from the external point of view, it was a system that was not recognized from below, ending with an open tube facing down into the free space under the plane. It was part of the sun to educate passengers not to use such a toilet while flying.

Fokker F.VIIa

The loading of Dutch single-engine Fokker F.VIIa aircraft to the LS was a virtue out of necessity. The impatient Avia BH25 expectants still did not come, so it was decided to buy two oltan fokkers of this type from KLM. In the end, they became the same in the LS and the second deployed type, because the first avie managed to overtake them.

The aircraft for the LS received home-made licensed Walter Jupiter engines with an output of 420 hp (this time the principle was observed to engage as much as possible domestic industry).

Avia Fokker F.VIIb / 3m

Avia F.VIIb / 3m (license Fokker)

Fokker transport airplanes have become very popular and popular with many airlines in the world in the interim. The machines had no technical breakthrough, but they were characterized by reliability, which is the longest thing for transport aircraft.

The Fokker F.VIIb / 3m was the engine version of the Seven. The increase in engine power in the second half of the twelve years has forced increased traffic safety. Engines with a lower power were used in the engine fokker, not in the case of single-engine similar transmission capacity, but in the competition, the power was of course yours.

The engine of the Fokker seven was manufactured under license by Avia. A total of eight Avia Fokker F.VIIb / 3m aircraft flew at the LS.

Fokker F.XVIII

The Fokker F.XVIII was not made by the sweat. It was established in 1932, at a time when modern all-metal constructions began to be prepared in the world and even appeared in the transport aviation. Only five pieces were made for the Dutch KLM. In 1935 she bought two LS machines from them.

Douglas DC-2

In 1934, the modern Douglas DC-2 was built, following on from the experimental prototype DC-1. The twin-engine machine had an all-metal construction and a retractable chassis. For the passengers, only the crew, who used to have a pleasant boarding pass, was a well-diversified district.

From the spring 1936 l

LS has become the second largest European airline to operate DC-2. In the spring of 1936, two pieces were purchased, one of which was destroyed during an inaugural flight in the Netherlands, where machines for European customers were assembled at Fokker. The crashed specimen was replaced by another in the autumn, and in the following year two more were built, one of which was probably sold to the Soviet Union after two months (the acquirer is uncertain, the fate of the machine is unknown). Thus, a total of five DC-2s appeared in the LS colors, but we can only talk about the meaningful use of this operator.

Douglas DC-3

The real revolution in air transport was marked by the Douglas DC-3, a legend known later as the Dakota. In the world, it was by far the most economical transport aircraft in the world, and the cost of transporting one passenger fell so much that it was not possible to operate it in a positive financial balance.

LS bought these three state-of-the-art machines. She defeated the district and on March 14, 1939, she might not even stumble.

With Douglas DC-3 and DC-2, it happened that the wolves would be taken to the army by emergency bomber adapters.

Avia Av.51

In 1934 pl

Let’s end the sentence of aircraft with one interesting, but unsuccessful type. Tm was a modern search engine Avia Av.51 and LS in 1934 filled it to enlist in the world fleet. The construction of the engine engine top for six passengers was the work of Robert Nebes. who headed one design department in Avia. Heaven first gained experience with American aircraft manufacturers and there he tried to apply his skills at home. However, he did not succeed and his prototypes both fell to the ground. Those built Av.51 natst did not have a fate and so exacerbated, although the LS could not deploy them due to technical immaturity (vibration in flight) on the world lines. The machines were eventually sold to the fighting region, because the republicans were grateful for anything that flew at least a little.
